2 children killed in Marion County crash, 3 in critical condition

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Two children are dead following a car crash in Marion County Monday night, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. In addition, a woman and two other children were critically injured in the crash.

Police said around 9:30 p.m., 30-year-old Cassandra Bautista was driving a Honda Odyssey with her four children in the car. She was driving south on Whetstone River Road in Claridon Township when she went through the intersection of Roberts Road without stopping.

Bautista continued off the left side of the road where she struck a small tree and an embankment. Police said the car went airborne and landed on the bank of a pond and then rolled into the pond.

Officials said Bautista and her four kids, ages 9, 7, 4 and 2 were trapped inside the waterfilled car.

Deputies, troopers, fire personnel and bystanders helped with removing the five victims trapped in the car.

The OSHP said the mother and children were taken to Marion General Hospital where the 2-year-old died. The 4-year-old child died at Nationwide Children's Hospital.

The mother and two other children are in critical condition.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seatbelts and two children were in booster seats, OSHP said.
